YEAR 11 CHEMISTRY

Students and teachers have been busy enjoying working in our brand new facilities in the STEAM building. VCE Chemistry students have been undertaking work on analytical chemistry: gravimetric analysis, stoichiometry and titrations.

Here are some pictures of year 11 students completing a titration to identify the concentration of a sample of hydrochloric acid.

The pink colour is given by an indicator showing the end point of the reaction. This technique is quite difficult, as the chemicals need to be added one drop at a time.

Well done to this year 11 student for achieving three concordant titres (samples within 0.1mL!!!) on her first attempt.
