Surprise Visitor

We had a very extraordinary start to our school day yesterday, with a kangaroo visit to our school site. This was such a surprise for a couple of our students, who first spotted it sitting in the middle of the senior play equipment before school started.

We enclosed the kangaroo into the school basketball court / oval area, closing all the gates leading into that space so that it was isolated from our students and any other pedestrian traffic. The students were very excited by our unexpected marsupial visitor.

We were very grateful to be sent three wonderful wildlife volunteer rescuers through Wildlife Australia, who were able to tranquillise the kangaroo, then once asleep, carefully place him into a kangaroo bag into the back of one of their cars. The kangaroo was driven to nearby Woodlands Park and released to hopefully find his mob again. 

A very happy ending!

School Dress Code Policy

Greenvale PS has a Student Dress Code policy that has been ratified and accepted by School Council. Expectations are that parents support this policy and ensure their child/ren adhere to the appropriate uniform and personal presentation, and that students wear their uniform with pride.

The Student Dress Code aims to: 

• foster a sense of community and belonging and encourages students to develop pride in their appearance  
• support Greenvale Primary School’s commitment to ensuring that our students feel equal and are dressed safely and appropriately for school activities  
• reduce student competition on the basis of clothing  
• enhance the profile and identity of the school and its students within the wider community.   

General Appearance Exemptions to Dress Code

While at school, travelling to or from school or participating in school activities, students must comply with the following: 

• Uniforms must be clean and in good repair 
• Uniforms should be clearly marked with the owner’s name 
• Additional layers of clothing may be worn underneath the uniform for added warmth, provided these undergarments are completely hidden 
• Studs, sleepers and watches are the only acceptable jewellery  
• Extreme hair colours (eg: green, pink or purple rinses) and/or extreme hairstyles (eg: patches of colour, or Mohawks) are not permitted.

Exemptions to Dress Code

We acknowledge that there might be instances where the enforcement of this dress code could impact students differently. 

Students and their parents or carers may apply either in writing or in person to the principal for an exemption to this Student Dress Code if:  

• an aspect of this code prevents the student from complying with a requirement of their religious, ethnic or cultural beliefs or background 
• the student has a particular disability or health condition that requires a departure from the dress code.
