SPECIALIST FEATURE NEWS

你 好 (ni hao) Welcome to our Specialists’ corner!

It has been a fun, creative and LOUD time in Performing Arts, with our music theory and instrumental program in full swing! You can see some of the action in the videos below. 

Aside from our focus on extending students' playing and performance skills on a variety of percussion instruments, we have been developing our music vocabulary by encouraging the use of specific musical terminology when creating and responding to music. 

Examples of music vocabulary include:

- Beat, rhythm, melody and harmony 

For example: "the melody is light and playful"

- Tempo, pitch, tone and dynamics

For example: "the dynamics change at the end"

- Crotchet, quaver and rest to help students communicate and create music notation.

Students have moved past our early learning in technique, mallet/stick holds, hand positioning, and basic scales (for tuned instruments) to creating songs and learning performance pieces. We are encouraging lifelong learning skills such as exploration, resilience and curiosity to support students in taking on the challenge of new instruments 

and different ways of creating music. 

It is great to see our fabulous MPRPS students take on new challenges with so much enthusiasm! We are seeing the school values reflected in the Performing Arts space every day, and students should be proud of their renewed focus on how they are demonstrating Respect, Responsibility, Inclusion, Integrity and Lifelong Learning in their Specialist classes.

🎶Exciting opportunities for Senior students🎭

The Arts Centre Melbourne is running creative workshops during the upcoming school holidays, designed to connect high-achieving Government school students looking to explore artistic pathways with established artists and industry experts.  Academy at Arts Centre Melbourne provides enrichment opportunities in writing, performance, music, dance, design and other creative disciplines to develop students' practical skills, confidence and creative thinking.

Soon, you will be able to hear snippets of what our students are up to in the Performing Arts space through a sound station located in the reception/office area. Throughout the term and across the year, these recordable buttons will provide students, families and visitors a chance to hear samples of what each year level is learning about or creating. Keep an eye out for the sound station's installation across the last two weeks of term - another great way to bring our Performing Arts learning out of the four walls of the classroom and into the ears of the wider school community!
