R U OK? Day

R U OK? is a national suicide prevention charity and registered public health promotion that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times.

Brinbeal Secondary College will be recognising R U OK? Day on Thursday 10th September with a number of activities for our students. This includes an incursion for each year level (Year 7 will have their incursion earlier due to program availabilities). These incursions require parent consent and a payment of $10 per student. This can be done on Compass or the College office.

Year 7 - Tuesday 1st September

Verbal Combat - Resilience & Anti Bullying Program

An educational theatre performance for high schools that provides strategies for resilience, bullying prevention and help-seeking. In a world where algorithms, AI and online influencers shape what we see and believe, how do students separate fact from fiction? How do they navigate friendships, (cyber)bullying, mental health and the ever-changing challenges of the online world?

Combat brings these issues to life through a dynamic and thought-provoking narrative. As a group of high school students deal with the pressures of school, family, peers and online influences, they must decide: will they be bystanders, followers, or changemakers?

This live performance empowers students to explore choices, consequences and the complex group dynamics that can lead to bullying and unhealthy friendships. Through engaging storytelling and relatable characters, Verbal Combat fosters critical thinking, empathy, and resilience, sparking meaningful discussions about respect, responsibility, privacy, bullying and mental health.

Year 8 - Thursday 10th September

RALLY empowers students to create a culture that challenges bullying, online and in person. Students are equipped with socially credible strategies to take action and unite together, instead of standing by. The big idea: “When it comes to bullying, either you’re part of the problem or part of the solution.”

In this workshop, students will: Explore the barriers, risks, and rewards of challenging bullying, online and offline, and reflect on why taking action matters.

After this workshop, students will: Develop deeper empathy and insight into the experiences of those affected by bullying, and reflect on their own past actions and choices. Identify and practise a spectrum of strategies to safely intervene, from small actions to higher-impact interventions, understanding how individual choices influence outcomes.

Year 9 - Thursday 10th September

CONNECT explores the positive potential of technology, upskilling students with online skills to build connected communities, support wellbeing and navigate harmful experiences. The big idea: “We can create an online world that is worthy of all of us.”

In this workshop, students will: explore how being online can both support and challenge relationships, connection and wellbeing, including understanding others’ experiences.

After this workshop, students will: Build critical literacy and strategies to engage safely and responsibly with online content, including recognising fake or AI-generated media. Develop skills to navigate harmful online experiences, including cyberbullying, image-based abuse, deceptive behaviour, and accessing support when needed.
