“You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.” — Paul Sweeney
Student of the Term
The MRC is more than just a room full of books; it’s a launchpad for focus, growth and collaboration. Last term, one Year 12 student truly embodied what this space is all about. Year 12 is a marathon, and finding the discipline to maximise your free periods is no easy feat. Yet, if you have walked through the library during study blocks, chances are you have seen this student with her head down, completely dialled in. But what truly sets her apart is her proactive approach to learning. She is chasing her goals and doing all she can to achieve her best. The MRC has become her second classroom, where she frequently meets with teachers—actively seeking feedback, asking questions and always striving to improve. Her work ethic, respect for the space and relentless drive to better her best makes her an incredible role model for all of us. Our MRC Student of Term 2 is Eloise Robinson.
Year 7 Readers’ Cup
We have seen a huge success in the pages read for our Year 7 Readers’ Cup. We will complete six cycles (a cycle is every two weeks) and see which Mentor Group can read the most pages.
After four cycles we have:
New Books
A flurry of new books have scurried into the MRC. Check out our new July Books slides on our MRC webpage, and namely, the new novel from Danielle Binks, ‘Shakespeare In the Orchard.’ Danielle teaches creative writing at RMIT and visited Academy in 2025 to speak to all Year 7s last year. Her historical fiction novels are a favourite amongst our students.
Book Week
This year, we will celebrate Book Week across Weeks 6 & 7. Please see all the activities we have planned to celebrate all things books.
