Dear Members of the Academy Community,
The term is racing away – it is difficult to believe we are already at the end of Week 3! Term 3 is the term where, alongside the day to day teaching and current arrangements, we are also looking ahead with planning taking place for the forthcoming year.
Your daughters in the senior end of the College will be informing you that a significant focus is on the choosing of subjects for the forthcoming year and I acknowledge the work of the Year 11 teachers who are currently conducting individual meetings with our Year 11 cohort.
Over the past days I have also had the joy of meeting with the High Achievers of Years 7-11. I trust that students find these meetings affirming gatherings and are encouraged to build on their achievements. I was particularly touched to see the joy on the faces of the Year 7 students who assured me that I would see them at a similar meeting each year as they made their way through the College. If your daughter meets the criteria of a High Achiever, parents will be receiving a letter to this effect.
Term 3 is also the term where the most loved and most significant day of the year occurs – Mercy Day. As you may have been informed, St Patrick’s Cathedral, the usual venue for our Mercy Day mass, is closed for renovations, so this year the Mercy Day mass will be celebrated on site in the Dillon Centre. While the Dillon Centre does not have the grandeur and majesty of the cathedral, it is our home and the change of venue will not displace the wonderful spirit that accompanies this day where we celebrate the essence of who we are and all we do. The day will begin, as usual, with Mass and lunchtime will see the regular BBQ. Our Year 12 leadership team have been working hard in the organisation of many community building activities on the day. We look forward to a day celebrating the Mercy spirit that embraces and supports all we do at the College.
A number of students this term will be joining Our Lady of Mercy College staff and students for the immersion experience to Cambodia. This will be the second time we have offered this experience, once again sharing with OLMC. It is an experience that changes lives – the lives of those with whom we work in Cambodia and the lives of our students who develop a greater understanding of the joy of giving and receiving. Two outstanding Academy staff members, Ms Mel Sachanandani and Ms Hannah Hale will accompany the students.
Term 2 will conclude with the International Study Tour to Italy. Hopefully, the weather in Italy will be more settled and the days of the current soaring temperatures well in the past.
And finally, a reminder to parents that if you have a younger daughter hoping to come to the Academy in 2027, please make contact as soon as possible as our numbers are particularly strong for Year 7, 2027 and we do not want any one to miss out on a place.
I thank you all for your ongoing support. I continue to feel blessed to lead this strong, dynamic and mercy infused College.
Every Blessing.
