Feast of St Mary MacKillop

Born in Brunswick St, Fitzroy in 1842, Mary MacKillop's legacy remains with us through the vast networks of Catholic schools that are a part of the Australian landscape. The community she founded, the Sisters of St Joseph continue to support marginalised communities through social welfare programs, community education and pastoral ministry. 

We gathered as a whole school in the library last week to celebrate this courageous woman (and our first Australian Saint), who with resilience and hope gathered a group of women around her. We reflected on the trials and successes in her life along with her great trust in God. As she and her sisters travelled across Australia on foot, horseback and trains they noticed the needs of the communities they visited.  They put their faith into action by responding to those needs, particularly the need for education in remote areas of Australia.

The children then worked with some clay and formed symbols that represented Mary's life or something that represents hope for them.

Thanks to everyone who was able to respond so generously to a need in our community. Staff will drop off the food items during our closure day on Monday.

St Mary's School and Parish Feast Day

Fri Sept 11th: 9:15am Mass, followed by a special feast day activity and shared morning tea at school.

Sat Sept 12th: Parish Celebration. All welcome. Mass, Rosary Procession to the Grotto.

Shared Dinner at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. All welcome.
