Grade 5/6

During the last week, we celebrated the life and legacy of Saint Mary MacKillop and her significant contributions to education and the Catholic community. There were many important ideas for students to think about and consider, including: How does a person become a saint? What does canonised mean? How did Mary MacKillop stand up to opposition in order to uphold her beliefs? And, why everyone has the right to an education.

These discussions provided opportunities for students to explore Mary MacKillop’s courage, determination and commitment to ensuring that all children had access to education, regardless of their circumstances.

This week in Persuasive Writing, we are analysing articles from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, exploring the concept that rights and freedom belong to all people. Each 5/6 student will then create a visually persuasive poster focusing on one article outlined. Students will apply persuasive techniques, to communicate a clear message, raise awareness and encourage others to consider the importance of protecting and respecting human rights.
