Grade 5/6 Bulletin

5/6 TERM 2 WRAP UP
What a wonderful term of learning, growth and achievement it has been in Grade 5/6!
Throughout Term 2, our students have continued to demonstrate persistence, curiosity and a willingness to embrace new challenges. It has been a pleasure to watch them grow not only as learners, but also as leaders, teammates and supportive members of our school community. From classroom learning and hands-on projects to camp experiences and buddy activities, students have approached each opportunity with enthusiasm, resilience and a positive attitude.
BIG IDEA AND ERP
At the beginning of the term, our Grade 5/6 students proudly presented their Educational Research Projects (ERP) to the school community. Through their investigations into Civics and Citizenship, students explored important concepts such as democracy, governments, laws, rights and responsibilities, while comparing different systems of government from around the world.
The confidence, knowledge and presentation skills students displayed were a testament to their hard work and dedication. We are now excited to continue our learning journey and look forward to sharing our Natural Disaster Survival Plans with the community early next term as part of our Science Big Idea. We know students will once again impress us with their creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
STEM
This term, students participated in an engaging six-week STEM program delivered by Inspire Robotics. Throughout the program, students learned the fundamentals of coding while designing and creating their own gaming consoles and interactive games.
Students explored a range of game design elements, including characters, backgrounds, obstacles and objectives, before applying their coding knowledge to bring their ideas to life. It was fantastic to see students demonstrate creativity, perseverance and innovation as they solved problems, refined their designs and proudly shared their completed games.
BUDDIES
Our Buddy Program continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of school life for both our Grade 5/6 students and their Prep buddies.
Throughout the term, students have embraced their roles as mentors, leaders and positive role models. Together, they have participated in a variety of activities, including creating books and puzzles, playing games and spending time outdoors. These shared experiences have helped build meaningful connections and a strong sense of belonging across our school community.
One of the most pleasing aspects has been seeing these relationships extend beyond organised buddy sessions. Our older students regularly check in on, encourage and support their younger buddies in the yard, demonstrating kindness, responsibility and genuine care. We are incredibly proud of the maturity and leadership they continue to show.
SNACKADILLO
Snackadillo has once again been a favourite learning experience for many students this term.
Students have enjoyed preparing delicious treats such as s'mores and nachos while developing important life skills including following instructions, working safely, maintaining hygiene standards and collaborating effectively with others. Alongside their cooking experiences, students have explored basic business and financial concepts, including budgeting, profit and loss, helping them understand the decision-making processes involved in running a small food business.
It has been wonderful to see students grow in confidence and independence in the kitchen, and we are excited to continue building these skills next term as we move into preparing warm winter favourites such as pasta and mini pizzas.
CARLTON RESPECTS
Another highlight this term was participating in the Carlton Respects program alongside players from the Carlton Football Club AFLW team.
Through a range of engaging activities and discussions, students explored the values of teamwork, respect, resilience and positive relationships. The program encouraged students to reflect on how these values can be demonstrated both at school and within the wider community.
Students were also given the exciting opportunity to design T-shirts for the team, allowing them to creatively express the key messages and values they had learned throughout the program. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, creativity and thoughtful ideas shine through.
THE SUMMIT CAMP
Without a doubt, one of the most memorable highlights of Term 2 was our camp at The Summit in Trafalgar East.
Over three action-packed days, students demonstrated incredible courage, resilience and determination as they challenged themselves through a variety of exciting activities. Whether they were conquering the abseiling tower, soaring through the air on the flying fox, tackling the Bag Blitz challenge or getting muddy during the Monster Mud Run, students approached each experience with enthusiasm and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones.
What stood out most was the way students supported and encouraged one another. We witnessed countless moments of kindness, teamwork and perseverance as students celebrated each other's successes, offered reassurance when challenges arose and worked together to overcome obstacles.
Camp provided invaluable opportunities for students to build confidence, strengthen friendships, develop independence and create memories that will stay with them for years to come. We could not have been prouder of the way our students represented themselves, their families and our school community throughout the experience.
