Grade 3/4 Bulletin

Inspire Robotics Battle Bots Program
One of the real highlights of the term was our Battle Bots program, run by Inspire Robotics. The students worked collaboratively in teams to design, build and modify their own battle bots before testing them in battle at the end of the program. It was incredible fun to watch, but it was also a valuable learning experience. Students explored concepts connected to motors, forces, electricity, magnets, batteries and movement, while also learning how to problem-solve, communicate with their group and make changes when their designs did not quite work the way they had hoped.
3-6 Athletics Carnival
Last week, students also took part in the Senior Sports Carnival, where they moved through a range of sporting events across track and field activities. Students were grouped by age and had the chance to challenge themselves, support one another and enjoy a full day of physical activity. Katie is now working through the times and distances to identify which students will represent the school at District level. Well done to all students for the way they participated and gave each event a go.
Cooking with Karen and Gardening with Anna
The gardening sessions with Anna and cooking sessions with Karen have also been such a positive part of our term. Students have had the opportunity to cook twice in the kitchen with Karen, building their confidence, independence and ability to follow instructions in a practical setting.
In the garden with Anna, students have been busy moving mulch, painting rocks for decoration, raking and removing leaves, creating bug habitats, watercolouring, planting, maintaining and harvesting from the garden, and spending time learning about the garden space. These sessions have provided students with wonderful hands-on learning experiences and have been a lovely way for them to connect with each other, the environment and our school community.
Big Idea/ERP
In ERP and Big Idea, students have been finalising their Big Idea actions, which can be seen in the videos below. They are now beginning to explore different scientific researchers and historical inventors over time as we move into our new Big Idea. Throughout this learning, students will investigate forces, different types of change, scientific language and experiments, while continuing to think about how science helps us understand and respond to the world around us.
Our new Big Idea is:
Science shapes the way we understand the world, solve problems and make choices, but every discovery also asks us to think carefully about how knowledge should be used.
Some of the questions guiding our learning include:
- How do scientists investigate and solve problems in our world?
- Why is science important in our daily lives?
- What are some significant scientific discoveries, and how have they impacted society?
- How do scientists from different fields work together to solve complex problems?
Thank you for your ongoing support,
