School Holiday Fun for the Family

The NSW State Library is marking its 200th Anniversary with a year long program of exhibitions, talks and performances. If you have never been to our magnificent State Library, consider being among the first to explore their anniversary celebrations at the Open Day on Sunday 19th April 2026. There will be something for everyone - including families! The JB Fairfax Learning Centre offers creative play and interactive experiences for young visitors. Fans of Pamela Allen (author of Alexander’s Outing and Mr McGee) can meet characters from her very popular picture books. There will be live music and performances throughout the day. For more information visit the following link: https://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/events/open-day-2026

CBCA Book Week 2026

Since 1946 the Children's Book Council of Australia has celebrated Book of the Year Awards. These awards celebrate and recognise the creative talent and imagination of authors and illustrators that fuel our young readers.

On 31st March the Book of the Year Shortlist was announced. This is an exciting first step in a series of events celebrating children’s literature in Australia. The 2026 Book of the Year winners are announced at a special ceremony in August followed by Book Week (22-28 August). In 2026 the theme of Book Week is Symphony of Stories.

Each year St Patrick’s purchases the shortlisted books and celebrates storytelling with classroom displays, drama performances, art works and of course our very popular Book Week Parade. We look forward to sharing these events with our St Patrick’s community. Please see the shortlisted books below.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

All students in K-2 have now been registered for the PRC. Congratulations to our classroom teachers and students who have been reading books in class and recording them for the Challenge - a great start on your reading journey.

Students in Yrs 3-6 can complete the Challenge independently. With the school holidays coming up it is a good time to explore the hundreds of PRC books on our digital platform SORA https://soraapp.com/welcome

When signing in to SORA choose ACEN (Australian Catholic Education Network - do not search for our school.) Students use their Cnet email address and password to log in.

If your child has transferred to St Patrick’s in 2026 from another school I have contacted the PRC team to merge your child’s previous PRC account with their St Patrick’s account. Due to the volume of transferring students from school to school the merge takes some time but should be finalised in Term 2. The merge will ensure your child receives the correct level PRC certificate in Term 4. If your child has completed the Challenge please email announcements@stpsutherland.catholic.edu.au to obtain your child’s PRC log in details and password.

Easter Blessings

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our St Patrick’s community a Blessed Easter.
