What's On In 1/2

Numeracy

Students in 1/2 have been investigating all things Place Value! They have been investigating number and picture patterns,  have been encouraged to explain their patterns and predict what the next steps would be!

Using MAB (wooden blocks used to represent numbers), students have built numbers and can record these numbers, paying close attention to the value of each digit. Our Place Value Monsters were a creative way to make and record numbers. More recently we are learning to expand numbers and explore different ways numbers ca be represented. Did you know that we can make 113 with 1x100’s, 1x10 and 3 x 1’s OR 11 x 10’s and 3 1’s!

We look forward to jumping into Addition, measurement (focusing on length) and shape over the next 4 weeks.

Integrated Studies

This term we have been investigating all things family! Students have explored how all families are different, and that we have extended families. Students were creative when they mapped their family out in a ‘Family Tree’ diagram.  We have been looking closely about the generations in our families and how every member is connected and special!

We look forward to furthering our knowledge on our STEM topic of weather with our visit to Science Works on March 31st.  Please consent and pay for this excursion via Compass. Thank you to all families that have already done so. It will be a fabulous day of Science and fun!
