From the Boarding Captains

Welcome back everyone for another exciting term ahead. National Boarding Week in Week Five, exams in Week Eight, Country Week in Week Eleven followed by holidays. By now everyone would be out of holiday mode and back into school mode.
The first weekend here at boarding has consisted of beach trips and getting outdoors. We try to enjoy what’s left of the warm weather before Albany winter hits. However, with this said, it means that winter sports have started up which consist of football, hockey, volleyball, netball, and soccer. Most of us were excited for our first games this week and had to shake that rust off that had built up over the summer break.
This term there have been some changes around the nightly Prep routines. Traditionally in the Senior houses prep has run from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. The Year Ten group gather in the common area and Year Elevens and Twelves in their rooms with doors open. Prep this term has been extended to now finish at 9.00pm. This is to ensure that people returning later from sport still have a dedicated time to complete their studies. Students will not have to study for the full two hours but are encouraged to stay in their rooms and read or get ready for the week. In the Junior houses, prep is still running for an hour and a half each night. However, they will now be doing it in the library to develop good study habits.
I look forward to the term ahead and pray you have smooth sailing at seeding time, with rain.

I hope everyone had a great start to the term. As the weather cools the boarders have been enjoying spending Sunday sessions around the fire and the Year Twelves rugging up in their leavers jumpers. This term will be a long one, but it will be full of winter sports and many exciting events such as National Boarding Week and Country Week.
Last Thursday several boarding students marched with the school and other community groups for the ANZAC Day parade. This is always an important day in our school calendar and it was a privilege to represent our school.
Last Wednesday we had the whole school Interhouse Cross Country. This year was the highest ever for participation. A huge well done to everyone who participated and congratulations to all those who made it into the interschool cross country. Great effort by Tiffany and Michael in their assistance with the organisation of the event.
A big event coming up this term is National Boarding Week in Week Five. Preparations for this week are coming together and we are very excited. A big day is planned on the Wednesday of that week. More information will be released in the coming weeks so stay tuned.
Wishing our senior boarders good luck with their ESTs coming up in the next few weeks. I hope everyone is looking forward to the rest of the term.
