Anchorage House News

Term Two is up and about and moving along quickly in Anchorage House. We have purchased some new items around the house for our boys to use this week. The 'old toastie machine' finally gave in and fell apart in the hands of one of its regular users, Bert Williams, this week. It was just hanging in there producing the staple diet of many boarding boys over the years 'ham and cheese toasties'. Another item well used on the weekends in the house was one of our electric frying pans. This kitchen appliance is used to assist in feeding the small army of boys with bacon and eggs on a Sunday.
The boys also came back to our new Xbox device and controllers. This is always a highlight over the weekend when IT access is granted for our boys as part of their down time. The final one is a new clothesline which is going up in the next week or two. The new and improved one will be easier for boys to bring up or down depending on what game they are playing outside. I am always amused when you bring something new into the boarder's space, it always generates conversations and interest then the new normal sets back in.
The boys have been very busy lately with an inhouse table tennis competition and have been enjoying the weather at the beach whilst they can. In the table tennis, Craig Wiech was the overall winner with Billy Hams coming second and Cameron Hooper placing third.
As we all know, Boarders love routines and knowing what to expect on a daily and weekly basis is an important way to make the school term tick along. Here’s a link to our routines for you to look through. We have deliberately made visuals so that our younger boarders can quickly check in and remind themselves of some of the key weekday routines.
This term Mrs Franzinelli will also be popping in on a Monday morning to fix any missing buttons on school blazers. We have also had some ripped pockets on the white shirts these need to be mended in town.
Anchorage Boarders are a very active bunch, and during this term and next will have a lot of sporting and life commitments happening throughout the week. We encourage our boys to try and plan ahead. This may include:
- packing sports gear the night before in their bags.
- laying out school clothes ready for the next day (hanging blazers up)
- having an early night
- requesting a ‘save’ meal for dinner if getting back from sport after 6.30pm
- entering a leave request, allowing Mum or Dad to sign off in plenty of time
- staying on top of washing
- attending Academic Support at school
- if not sure about anything ..ask for help!
Supervisors are always very happy to chat with the boys about time and self-management strategies that can help them stay on top of 'whatever life throws at them'!
Birthdays
Since returning for Term Two, Nicolas Posse our Gap Assistant from Columbia had his birthday, the boys celebrated with two chocolate cakes. Jake Bessell-Browne was also lucky enough to have his birthday fall in the holidays and we send him our best wishes.
