Careers

In the career space this term we have wrapped up the My Career Insights program with the majority of the Year 9 cohort completing their Morrisby reports and unpacking interviews. We will be running catch up interviews towards the end of Term 1 and beginning of Term 2 for any students who have not yet had the opportunity to sit down with a career practitioner. However, although the testing and 1-on-1 sessions are complete, the Morrisby program will continue to play a role in our students’ career exploration and journeys throughout the year and into Years 10-12.
From a student perspective, students are able to access their reports and the subject, career and destination suggestions at any time. They can interact with this data by favoriting professions and subjects that interest them and also use the platform to research further information about these careers and programs. The platform acts as a great hub for resources and links to further exploration around careers, further study, employment and apprenticeships and traineeships. Students are also able to request to retake certain assessments if they would like to update their results at any point in Year 9 – 12.
From a school perspective, the Morrisby platform plays an important role in discussions around work experience in Year 10, subject selection in VCE and the University/TAFE/employment application process in Year 12 . Student’s Morrisby reports are referenced in 1-on-1 career sessions and subject selection appointments as a tool to better understand students’ aptitudes, preferences and skillsets and, from there, set them up for success at SOC and beyond. The benefits of the Morrisby program are far reaching, and it is a lifelong tool that students can interact with even after their secondary school journey comes to an end. We encourage students and parents to take some time to familiarise themselves with the platform over the course of the year and look forward to re-visiting students’ reports with them moving forward.
