Assistant Principals Report

End Of Term 1:
Assistant Principal's Report
End of Term 1: Report
As we move through the school year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on how our initiatives and activities align with our school’s vision: to nurture resilient and skilled leaders for tomorrow. Every step we take as a school is aimed at equipping our students with the skills, values, and character they need to thrive in their futures.
We have placed a renewed focus on student punctuality, adherence to the school uniform and appearance guidelines, and improved attendance in both classes and assessments. These expectations are designed to instil responsibility and a sense of discipline in our students—qualities that will serve them well as future leaders.
We encourage all students to embrace these high standards and make the most of their learning journey while contributing positively to our school community.
School Uniform
A reminder that from next term, all students are required to wear the Winter uniform. It might be a good idea to try on each of the uniform items over the holidays just in case you need to purchase any new pieces from PSW Cheltenham. Our school Uniform Policy is written and endorsed by our School Council. The expectation is that every student wears their uniform correctly as it is a symbol of the high expectations held at South Oakleigh College. Most students wear their uniform perfectly every day and it really looks fantastic. It is also a way we show pride in our school and that we are a member of this unique and quite special community.
Child Safety
At South Oakleigh College we do everything possible to ensure the safety of our students. The school has a detailed, On-Site Supervision policy.
Part of this policy outlines the supervision provided to students before and after school and the obligations of parents around these guidelines. School staff do not commence duty until 8.30am and therefore if your child is on site prior to this time, they are unsupervised.
Parents/carers are discouraged from sending their children to school before the designated supervision time in the morning which is 8.30am at South Oakleigh College. Parents/carers are encouraged to pick up their child by the end of the designated end of day supervision period.
At the end of the day students must leave the school grounds by 3.30pm unless they are involved in a period 6 class or a school activity that has been arranged by a South Oakleigh College staff member. Again, the college does not have the capacity to supervise students after this time and we ask that students make their way to a location that each parent is aware of and provides adequate supervision for their age.
Student Injury
Parents and carers are reminded that the Department of Education DOES NOT provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents and carers are generally responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs. This includes students who may be injured during school or interschool sporting competitions. In a first aid emergency, we shall always call an ambulance should it be considered necessary by the treating officer in regard to the duty of care to the injured student.
Fortunately, this does not happen very often, however, we strongly recommend that parents do have ambulance cover for any such contingency as any costs in such a matter are passed to the parent.
I wish all staff, students and their families a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday break when we conclude the term on Friday 4th April.
