Over the past two weeks in Literacy we have continued to use our knowledge of letters and their most common sounds to write words, phrases and sentences. We are now learning how to read and write longer words by breaking words into syllables and chunking sounds together. We have continued to work on our heart words, reading, writing and putting these words into sentences verbally and in writing. We have been working on our very own narrative story, complete with a plan, a setting and characters. Students heve included a beginning, middle and end to their story. Some students are up to editing their work, making a front cover and a blurb. The students will be the authors and illustrators of their own imaginative text. We have added adjectives and adverbs to give our reader an exciting story to read.
In Numeracy we have worked on addition and subtraction sums with strategies such as using counters, ten frames, counting on and back, number lines and drawing pictures to find the correct answers. We have worked on addition and subtraction worded problems using the above strategies to work out the answers.
In Auslan we have learnt about signing colours and numbers one to twenty.
In Geography, we have been learning about First Nations Peoples and the ways they share their sense of belonging and the identification of it. We have learnt why rock carvings are special to the First Nations Peoples and how we can recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ sacred places.
In Design Technologies, have learnt about identifying where the food in our lunch boxes are from and different foods from various cultures around the world.
Student Teacher
We welcome Miss Chloe Wilson into Mrs Guy's grade. Chloe is a perservice teacher completing a second year placement from University.
We absolutely loved spoiling our Mums and special people in our lives in our classroom when we celebrated Mother's Day.

**Please remember to encourage your child to read their take home reader/s every night. Please sign their diary to count as nights read for our class competition of most nights read. Please encourage your child to learn to read their heart words which are sent home after we have learnt them at school. If your child finds reading these words easy, they can work on spelling these words. **

A huge congratulations to our student achievers; we are so proud of you for showing our school values of respect, responsibility and resilience. Certificates will be held at school and presented at assembly each fortnight.
This week's Literacy tip for parents:
Try to incorporate reading into everyday activities with your child to see the purpose of reading past learning to read at school. Include ideas such as reading shopping lists or cooking recipes together, reading speed signs, give way and stop signs, reading the names of shops and food packages in the supermarket or at home. Other items to read in the world around your child include reading a calendar, text messages, emails, instructions to play a game or fix a toy, a map, ATM receipts, parking signs, train timetables, menus, bank statements, bills and the school newsletter here!

We have been super busy over the last couple of weeks in 1/2M and 1/2S. We have enjoyed Athletics day, celebrating Mother's Day. Students in class have been learning about Design Technology, First Nations Connections, Auslan, Literacy, Numeracy, and we have enjoyed listening to and still listening to "The Magic Faraway Tree" 🍄🍄 in class. 🧚🧚
We all had lots of fun at School Athletics!! We loved watching the teachers race at the end, and Owen joined in the race too!! 🐶🐶

We were so lucky that we got to spend Monday and Tuesday celebrating with our Mums or our Special Person 😍😍. Monday, we did lots of different activities in the class, we loved doing our mum's nails and massaging their hands. 💅💅. Tuesday, we enjoyed a special breakfast in the hall and ate yummy croissants!! 🥐🥐
In Literacy, we have all been learning about Narrative writing. In narrative writing, our story needs to have characters 🤠👽🐶, and we need to have a setting 🖼️🎡🪂. Our story needs to have a problem 🤔🤔 and then we need a resolution 🤩🤩. Students have enjoyed writing funny stories. Students in 1/2M loved the story about Bob the Cowboy and how he fell off his horse 🐴🐴 Jenny. Poor Bob fell into a Cactus bush 🌵🌵 and had prickles in his bottom. Jenny, the horse, had to pick the prickles out with her teeth 😁😁, before they rode off happily into the sunset 🤠🐴🌇.
In Maths, our superstar students have still been learning about addition and subtraction. But what really makes them superstars they have been learning about worded problems.
Example: The red team hit 6 balls in the game. The blue team hit some balls in the game, too. The two teams hit 14 balls in all. How many balls did the blue team hit?
Well Done 1/2M and 1/2S
