This term in Maths, we are busy exploring numbers and shapes. We are learning to name, represent, and order numbers from 0 to at least 20, including practicing "number after" and "number before" through counting. Students are also diving into addition by looking at how numbers can be broken into smaller parts (for example, seeing that 5 can be made of 2 and 3).

We are also practicing "quick-look" recognition known as subitising, where students learn to name the number of objects in a small group, like the dots on a dice, at a glance without counting them one by one. In our Space unit, we will be sorting and naming both 2D shapes and 3D objects found in our environment.

Finally, we will introduce ordinal numbers (like first, second, and third) to help children describe their position in a line or where objects are placed around them.
