Writing

In Foundation, our writing is deeply connected to what we are reading. Many of the sentences the children "write" actually begin as orally generated ideas sparked by our mentor texts.

We are focusing on sharing feelings about characters, defining nouns and verbs, and expanding simple sentences by adding details like "where," "when," and how." For example, the children will practice orally generating reasons why the Pigeon should (or shouldn’t!) drive the bus.

Alongside this creative work, we are continuing to build the physical skills of writing. This includes using our UFLI program to learn correct letter formation and continuing to refine the pencil grip and fine motor strength we started developing in Term 1.
