Voice of the Students

Year 2

In Year 2 the students have had a great time making their trioramas. Each child selected an animal to research and wrote an information report describing its key features, habitat and diet. The students loved being creative to design their habitat, keeping in mind the things that the animals need and the environment that the animals live in. 

August chose to learn about the anaconda. In his triorama, he added rocks and water to show where it lives. He said that anacondas hide in the water and wait for an animal to come get a drink. Then they jump out and eat it all in one go or just keep biting until it’s gone.

Clodagh also created a habitat for an anaconda. When I asked her about her triorama, she told me, “Did you know that a baby anaconda eats small things like frogs, birds, little deer and fish?”

Mia researched and wrote about a tiger. She explained that there’s a rock for the tiger to jump on so it can see other animals from far away.

Louis created his triorama of a lion’s habitat. He included the dry ground and the hot sun to show where lions live.

Koby researched and shared his facts about the black cockatoo. He explained that black cockatoos live in trees near water because they need to drink lots of it.

During Maths, we have been learning how to measure and compare length using informal units. The students chose small objects to measure larger items around the classroom, exploring how many units long each object was. They also practised making sensible estimations before checking their guesses by measuring the actual item.

Here is our wonderful learning from Reconciliation Week. The students shared their own reasons for walking together and talked about how they can commit to reconciliation every day. They showed thoughtful ideas about kindness, respect, and working together to help create a better future for everyone.
