Student Showcase

As part of our English study this term Year 7 have been examining and writing Narrative Poetry.
Congratulations Gurnaaz D from 7B for producing an excellent example.
In the quiet hours of restless nights,
The pressure builds a weight that bites.
The bitter taste of tiredness on my tongue,
Like a heavy song that has never been sung.
Inundate my mind with thoughts so deep,
That the rumination of grades starts to steal my sleep.
Find value in meaningless praise,
Chasing perfection in a flawed maze.
Bloodshot eyes,
Strained from a dim light,
All for the sake of a single letter,
Scrawled on a crumpled piece of paper.
Yet, as mornings golden fingers stretch and pry,
A new truth is unveiled.
Grades once tall towers touching the sky,
Now drift down like fallen Autumn leaves.
In a fierce pursuit of an endless climb,
I found the stars that don’t always align.
Tense shoulders,
Worn from the climb.
A relentless chase, a self-made storm,
But even hurricanes can lose their form.
Ink stained hands,
Longing for a rest.
I see now while grades have their place,
They aren't a measure of my best.
