Footy Colours Day

The last Thursday of term 3 saw Lakeside College a sea of footy colours!

Across both primary and secondary, students and staff donned their sporting colours in lieu of a gold coin donation to support global Lutheran causes, an initiative dedicated to providing training for teachers of disabled students in Indonesia. This is a valuable cause that aims to enhance educational opportunities and support for students who face significant challenges.

Throughout the day our primary students participated in footy clinics facilitated by the AFL Schools Program- where they developed their handball, kicking and game skills.

Lunchtime footy challenges, directed by our school leaders and PE staff, were run throughout varying year levels within the school- handball challenges, most accurate kick and longest kick competitions were an option for students who were keen to get involved. Lots of colour, lots of fun and lots of students joining in the AFL activities.

Great job to our student leaders and PE staff for making the action happen! Please enjoy the splash of colour with action photos from our AFL colours day.

Primary District Athletics

Week 7 proved to be a busy week in the Primary Sporting Calendar with District Athletics also held on Thursday 29th August.

The break in the weather, from previous wind and rain, was timely for us to be able send a team of 21 students to the primary district athletics at Casey Fields. We also brought a team of secondary helpers who did a fantastic job in facilitating the running of the program for the 12 primary schools involved in the district event.

Our Lakeside athletes competed across a variety of events- sprints, jumps, throws and relays all giving their best efforts.

Congratulations to the following students who have qualified for the Cardinia Division athletics carnival in mid Septmber:

Darcy C, Barnaby, Neriah L, Naomi L, Flynn M and Victoria N

We wish them the best of luck at the next representative level.

Primary Division Athletics

Wednesday 18th September saw Lakeside College with a team of six Year 4-6 students attend the Cardinia Division Athletics Championships at Casey Fields.

The wind was strong and swirly but the sun was out for our Lakeside athletes to compete in their events.

We had representatives in shot putt, long jump, high jump and the 100m sprint. Well done to Naomi L, Flynn M, Victoria N, Barnaby, Neriah and Darcy C who gave 100% in their events.

A special mention to Naomi who qualified for the Southern Metro Regional Championships in her shot putt, and to Barnaby, who qualified in the double of Long Jump and the 100m sprint. Good luck at the next level!

Year 5/6 Hooptime Basketball

On Tuesday 27th August, Lakeside College sent six Grade 5/6 teams to Cardinia Life stadium for the Officer/Pakenham schools’ Hooptime Basketball competition- x3 rookies teams, x2 future stars and x1 All Stars Girls team.

The great thing about Hooptime is that it is a basketball competition that aims to cater to all levels of ability regardless of whether a student plays competition basketball. It is an ideal opportunity to give students a go in a competitive but fun environment.

The competition itself proved to be a rewarding day for our students with all teams scoring some wins on the board and some valuable opportunities to create primary sporting memories.

A special mention and congratulations to our All Star Girls team- who battled it out in a close grandfinal, to be winners of their division. This qualifies the girls to participate in the regional Hooptime finals in term 4.

Please enjoy the following student reflection of their day as All Star grandfinalists:

On the 27th of August 2024, the girls All-Star Lakeside College basketball team won the Hoop Hime Championship. Jess D and Ella D were our coaches .

The people playing on the All-star team were Arabella, Tahira J, Ella R, Neriah L, Jessica S, Harper B, Scarlett P and Victoria N.

All our games against other schools were incredibly exciting, filled with competition and memorable moments. Each player played their best effort, showcasing their skills and determination. It was great to see everyone pushing their limits and working together

Hoop time was an overall really fun experience, and we thank Lakeside College for organizing this for us. We thank Ella and Jess for coaching us. We are very happy that we won most of our games but in the semi finals, Luckily we won the finals. We are very excited to move on to the next round for hoop time.

Year 7 Basketball

Year 7's took to the courts at Cardinia Life Stadium for the District Interschool Basketball.

All the students had a fantastic time. Our teams came up against some very tough competition that pushed their resilience and skills. Our Girls came away with some great wins and teams developed their gameplay throughout the day. The Boys team played very well. The results did not always fall in their favour, but they put up a very strong display.

A Huge thank you to the teams, staff and parents who come out to support!
