Senior School Update

Term 1 has been a fantastic start to the year, filled with energy, growth, and achievement. From the excitement of new beginnings to the dedication shown in classrooms, co-curricular activities, and sporting events, our students have embraced every opportunity. It has been a joy to see them build friendships, challenge themselves, and set strong foundations for the year ahead. As we head into the holidays, we celebrate their hard work and look forward to an equally rewarding Term 2.

Assessment Calendar

The Term 2 Year 11 and 12 Assessment Calendar will be sent out over the holiday period. Some important early Unit 3-4 SACs to note:

  • Week 2: General Mathematics
  • Week 3: English

Winter Uniform – Term 2

A reminder that students are required to wear the winter uniform from the start of Term 2. This includes long pants instead of shorts and the spray jacket only in inclement weather.

Holiday Homework

Over the holidays, students will have set homework to consolidate their learning:

  • Unit 3 subjects: 5–6 hours per subject
  • Unit 1 subjects: 3–4 hours per subject

Year 11 students accelerating in a Unit 3-4 subject will also have 5–6 hours of homework for those subjects. This work is expected to be completed and submitted in the first lesson of Term 2. It is a crucial step in reinforcing learning from the Head Start program and Term 1. I encourage you to check in with your child to ensure they have a plan in place to complete this work in a timely manner.

VCE Coordinator

We also extend our best wishes to Ms Abbey Panosh, who will be departing on maternity leave at the end of Term 1. We thank her for her dedication and look forward to hearing her exciting news. Mr Andrew Chamings will take over as VCE Coordinator from Term 2.

GAT – Tuesday, June 17

The General Achievement Test (GAT) is a pen-and-paper test assessing general knowledge and skills in writing, numeracy, and reasoning. It plays a key role in VCE assessment quality assurance and verifies that students meet the Victorian Literacy and Numeracy Standards.

The GAT is compulsory for all students completing a VCE or scored VCE VET Unit 3-4 sequence, including Year 11 students studying a Unit 3-4 subject and all VCE-VM students. Further details will be shared early next term.

SCUBA Camp

Unit 3 Outdoor and E.S. SCUBA/Snorkel Camp

From Wednesday, 19 March to Friday, 21 March the Unit 3 Outdoor and Environmental Studies students attended a camp in Queenscliff and the Port Phillip Bay region. It was an incredible experience for the students, blending outdoor adventure with environmental studies. Over the three days, the students had the opportunity to engage in both scuba diving and snorkelling, exploring the diverse marine life of the bay. For many, it was their first time scuba diving, with most students achieving their Open Water Diver certification—an impressive accomplishment that highlighted their dedication and the camp’s hands-on approach to learning.

The activities not only provided a fun and immersive experience, but they also gave students valuable insights into marine ecosystems, complementing their studies in outdoor environments. The camp was a fantastic opportunity to connect classroom theory with real-world application, all while fostering teamwork, personal growth, and environmental awareness. Students left with not just new skills but lasting memories of their time in one of Victoria's most beautiful marine environments.

Many thanks to Mr Geaghan, Mr O’Callaghan, Mr Hayes, Mr Trent Moodley, and Mr Paddy O’Brien for staffing the experience.

– Nathan Geaghan
