Foundation Day Service

We are excited to share that the 2025 Foundation Day celebration will take place at the Sacred Heart Cathedral on Friday 9 May from 6pm to 7pm.

Student attendance

As an event of cultural significance for our school, Foundation Day attendance is compulsory for all students in Years 3 to 12.

In exceptional circumstances, families can request permission for their child to be absent. Applications must be submitted via the Exemption Request Form by Friday 2 May.

Please note that submission of this form does not guarantee approval of the exemption. All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by Mr Jay Weston for Senior School students and Mr Don Thompson for Junior School students, with families notified in due course.

Parent and carer attendance

The Cathedral enforces seating restrictions to ensure the safety of its congregations. As a result, we are only able to offer a limited number of tickets to families via our free ticketing system, with a maximum of two per family.

The Trybooking ticketing platform will open to parents and carers on Monday 7 April at 9:00am, with a second batch of tickets to be released on Monday 5 May at 4:00pm. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend acting quickly to avoid missing out. Please note that Girton students from Years 3 to 12 have been accommodated for and do not require a ticket.

As seating is limited, we kindly ask that you cancel your tickets through Trybooking if you are no longer able to attend, giving other families the opportunity to purchase a ticket.

The Foundation Day Service will also, be live-streamed on the evening here

Foundation Day 2025

Student uniform

Students must be immaculately presented in their formal uniform suite, including blazers for those in Years 6 to 12. All Junior School students are required to wear their burgundy jumper.

After-school supervision

Girton will be offering after-school supervision for any Senior School students who wish to remain on campus until the Foundation Day service begins. To register your child for after-school supervision, please complete the Registration Form by Friday 2 May.

Registered students will report to the Naunton Family Building Lecture Theatre from 3.30pm, where a movie will be screened with staff supervision. The movie will conclude at approximately 5pm, after which time the students will be escorted to the Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Student arrival and departure procedures

Junior School students:

  • Arrival process: Students in Years 3 to 6 will be advised of their drop-off point following their choir rehearsal on the day of the service. Students should arrive by 5.30pm so they are seated in their designated area by 5:40pm.
  • Departure process: At the conclusion of the service at 7:00pm, parents and carers will need to sign students out with a Junior School staff member from inside the church.

 Senior School students:

  • Arrival process for student musicians: Students performing in musical ensembles are required to arrive at the Cathedral by 5:20pm, and report to their House Assembly area to have their name marked off the roll before proceeding to their designated area inside.
  • Arrival process for other students: All other Senior School students should arrive by 5:30pm, and report to their House Assembly area to have their name marked off the roll before processing into the Cathedral with their Head of House.
  • Departure process: Parents and carers are asked to collect students promptly at 7.00pm, with students permitted to depart the cathedral to meet their families. As it will be busy outside the Cathedral at this time, we ask that you remind your children to take care when crossing the road. Students have been instructed to use the traffic lights when crossing High Street.

We look forward to welcoming students, parents and carers to this important school event in the magnificent Sacred Heart Cathedral, as we gather to show our gratitude for our school founders and those who have built on their legacy.
