On Friday 21 and Saturday 22 March, we hosted the third Girton Grammar Interschool Showjumping and Dressage Championships, a fantastic event that showcased the talent and dedication of our equestrian community.
Friday saw 60 students competing in showjumping, with Girton Grammar emerging victorious by just two points over Braemar College. On Saturday, 120 riders took part in dressage, demonstrating skill and commitment in a highly competitive field, with schools from southern NSW to southern Victoria competing.
A huge thank you to all the staff who supported the event, particularly Mark Beever, Jacinta Jackson, Jay Weston, Clint Whitsed and the Maintenance Team for their invaluable help in setting up on Thursday. Special thanks to Don Thompson for assisting with the pack-up on Saturday afternoon.
This event would not be possible without the dedication of the families involved in the Equestrian co-curricular. We are especially grateful to Jody and Greg Pickering, but we also acknowledge all families who contribute in so many ways – whether towing jumps trailers, assisting with logistics, or even handling the less glamorous but essential tasks like cleaning facilities. This support is essential in making the event a success.
As a qualifier for the State Championships and the only event of its kind in the north of the state, these two days were a significant achievement for all involved. If you see any of the following students, please take a moment to congratulate them on their outstanding efforts:

The Volleyball Vic One Day Series on 26 March was an exciting and competitive event, with three of our school teams – Year 12 Boys Division 2, Year 10 Girls Division 1, and Year 12 Girls Division 1 – competing against tough opposition. It was a day filled with highs and lows, hard-fought matches and valuable learning experiences for all players involved.
Year 12 Boys Division 2
The Year 12 Boys Division 2 team had a mixed bag of results, finishing third in their group with two wins and two losses. They started strong, showing solid teamwork and skill, securing two well-earned victories. However, they also faced two tough opponents who managed to edge them out, leading to a balanced record by the end of the day. Despite missing out on the top spots, the team displayed impressive resilience and determination, making their coaches and supporters proud.
Year 10 Girls Division 1
For the Year 10 Girls Division 1 team, the tournament was a valuable learning experience. Although they were unable to secure a win in their two pool matches, they showed great effort, enthusiasm and improvement throughout the day. Facing strong teams, they gained crucial match experience that will undoubtedly help them in future competitions. Their dedication and perseverance were commendable, and they walked away with newfound confidence and motivation to continue developing their skills.
Year 12 Girls Division 1
The Year 12 Girls Division 1 team had an outstanding campaign, dominating their pool to finish in first place. Their strong performances throughout the day saw them qualify for the grand final, where they faced an intense and highly competitive match. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, they narrowly missed out on victory in the final, finishing as runners-up. Their exceptional teamwork, strategic play and determination were evident in every match, making their achievement a significant one.
A huge thank you to Mr Langan, Mrs O'Shae and Mr Hoyt for their expert coaching and guidance throughout the day. Their support and leadership played a crucial role in helping the teams perform at their best.
Overall, the tournament was a fantastic experience for all players involved, filled with growth, teamwork and memorable moments. Well done to all teams for their effort and dedication!
