Music Night 2020

Music’s night of nights took place on Monday in the Xanten Theatre, with performances from students across Years 7-12 from all of the College’s Music ensembles and contemporary bands. The sold-out concert was also the first public event for the Arts Department in 2020 in light of restrictions and was an exciting opportunity for parents, family and friends to see the hard work that had been going on behind the scenes throughout the year.

The night showcased the College Concert Band, Guitar Ensemble, String Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Chorale, each conducted by their respective ensemble directors. Considering the short rehearsal time that both the students and directors had to work in their ensembles the standard remained very high and was enjoyed greatly by those in attendance. The contemporary Liturgical Music and Year 11 and 12 contemporary bands rounded out the night with some classic ballads and high energy rock and pop numbers that certainly got a few toes tapping. The last song saw many students join the band on stage to dance along to the Nutbush, a final item that left the students buzzing with energy and excitement.

A special thanks goes to Mrs Katherine Freind, Performing Arts Administrative Assistant, for her hard work behind the scenes as stage manager on the night and for ticket sales over the last few weeks. Thank you too goes to all of the staff who were present and assisted in some capacity on the night in lighting, sound, student supervision, IT support, media and front of house. Your help is so very appreciated! Thank you as well to all of the students for their excellent performances, and of course to the parents who continue to support their children’s music education

#GigAWeek finale

Weeks 7, 8 and 9 saw our final lunchtime concerts of the #GigAWeek series, and it started on Monday 31 August with Theatre Sports by our talents Year 10 and Year 12 Drama students hosted by Miss Kerri Hilton in the Xanten Theatre. The next day was a showcase of our dancers, with the ORC jam packed with students witnessing the talents of the Canons Hip Hop Crew who not only performed their work from the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, but also got everyone up on their feet with some social dances. Year 12 band The Zingers helped celebrate R U OK Day with a performance in Gilbert Court (Year 7 Area) and 14:25 wrapped up the series of lunchtime shows with their performance in Week 9. The #GigAWeek FINALE was the showcase event on the Arts calendar for 2020.
