Years 7 and 10

Year 7 Humanities and Social Science

The Year 7 Humanities and Social Sciences classes have learnt about the daily lives of the Ancient Chinese. Many activities are still seen in modern life. 7HUM05 participated in a Chinese Tea Ceremony where the students learnt the importance of sharing tea as a social activity and showing respect to their elders. The accepted the tea cup with both hands and bowed to the giver of tea. They were to smell it and drink it in small sips as a since of respect. Students also discovered the art of Kung Fu. An important martial art style of Ancient China, students had the opportunity to learn some basic moves. A great real-world experience for 7HUM05.

Year 10 Geography excursion

On Friday, 4 September classes 10HUM01 and 10HUM04 spent the day exploring levels of well-being of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians in Elizabeth Quay and East Perth. Students spent the morning with Justin Martin from Djurandi Dreaming, a Nyungar and Yamatji man who shared his knowledge of past well-being issues towards Indigenous people and about the surrounding environment of Elizabeth Quay that is important to Indigenous people.

Students then made their way into East Perth visiting Wellington Square, Wittenoon Street, Royal Street and finishing up in Claisebrook Village. Along this path, students observed changes in services and infrastructure impacting levels of well-being. Perfect weather, a great group of students and an interesting focus meant all had a wonderfully educational day out of the classroom. Thank you to Mr McGoorty and Mrs Silva who participated in the fieldwork.
