Primary Interschool Athletics
The Primary Athletics team has recently competed in both the STCPSSA (Southern Catholic Schools) and JSSATIS (Independent Schools) Athletics Carnivals at the Domain Athletics Centre. The team competed strongly, with all year groups winning many ribbons. Well done to all the girls for trying their best and representing the College so well.
Congratulations to our record breakers at the JSSATIS Carnival - Jemima Geappen in Year 3 Long Jump and Olivia Jones in Year 6 400m.
Highlights for me were the Year 3 relay team at the JSSATIS Carnival, coming from behind to snatch victory; and the impressive performances of the Year 6 100m group at STCPSSA carnival, all four winning their 100m races and then comfortably taking out the relay.
Thanks to Year 8 students Alexandria Mulley, Anna Cosentino, Brigitte Nolan, Grace Rowbottom, Ila Usuga and Mia Reardon who did a great job marshalling students to events and assisting them with warm ups.
Ribbons were awarded to 4th place in the STCPSSA event and 3rd place in the JSSATIS event to the following students:

State Basketball
Last weekend, Mount Carmel was represented by a Year 7/8 team at the Basketball Tasmania Secondary School Championships
The team began the championships with a tough first up match against St Mary’s, losing 58 to 17, but were able to regroup and improve in their afternoon games, including a 13 point loss to Scotch Oakburn College and 5 point loss to Marist Regional College. Sunday’s match against St Patrick’s College was a tight one, ending in a 6 point loss. The competition in tournament was definitely a step up, however there was improvement with each game. The players relished the opportunity to represent the College with pride, and worked really well together as a team.
Special thanks to Maria Gerathy for coaching and Jen Rasmussen for managing the team, and thanks also to the family members that helped out on the scorer’s bench over the weekend, and supported the girls to have such a great weekend of basketball.
Early Years Athletics Carnival
Students from Kinder to Year 2 had a fantastic morning at the Early Years Athletics Carnival last Wednesday. After postponing the event from the week before, we were blessed with a beautiful morning for racing. The students did an amazing job in all their events; trying so hard, working together as a team, and cheering their house team mates.
Thanks to the Year 5 & 6 Leaders that helped run the events and awarded ribbons, and to all the parents that came along to support the children.
Primary T20 Cricket
The JSSATIS T20 cricket roster also concluded this week. The teams have had a lot of fun in their rosters, learning some new skills and showing great team spirit. Thanks to the team facilitators who made this roster possible, including Justin Devine, Neil Wilkinson, Tim Donovan, Jaydan Wiggins and Nathan King.
