A Word from the Principal

Last week my little boy had his Year 12 Formal.  Not so little anymore, he is now finished his formal schooling.  Where did the time go?  Two years ago a wonderful mother stopped me whilst I was on bus duty and mentioned to me that my little boy was being looked after by the Mount Carmel girls at GYC.  They had taken him under their wings and were looking out for him, making him feel included and generally being a support for him.  I know that they did exactly that – from a birthday cake on his birthday, to letting him “hang” out with them, to explaining the specific Tassie vocabulary he needed to know.  They were his supports.  On Friday night, I saw them all dressed to kill, smiling and having fun alongside my son.  They were all grown up, ready to take on the world, starting that very night.  It made me think about the values of inclusiveness and hospitality, something these students did without thinking.  What a gift they are to my son.

This week we will have a number of Year 10 farewell rites of passage.  The students will be celebrated and cherished and sent on their way.  We have as a community been touched by their contributions and personalities. We have laughed and cried with them, we have learnt from them. Now it is time to send them on their way. For the parents, some of who will be seeing their last daughter finish at Mount Carmel, I hope we have done enough to instil in them the values of inclusiveness and hospitality. The value of looking outward and seeing those in need and making a difference to them.

This week we have also welcomed a number of new families to our community.  I hope that they know how welcome they are and how much we look forward to getting to know them. Life is a journey with beginnings and endings.  As we farewell our current Year 10’s and welcome new students, I am mindful of the Irish blessing for them all:

Staffing Update

We welcome the following staff to our community for 2020:

Prep:  Mrs Alice Row

Sport & Rec Trainee: Sara Graves

I have also approved Kirstin Palfrey’s leave application for next year.  Kirstin will be exploring life’s opportunities and adventures during 2020.  We wish her the best of luck.

2020 Enrolments

As staffing revolves around enrolment numbers, families are reminded that if thy wish to withdraw their child(ren) from Mount Carmel College they are required to give ten (10) school weeks notice. This does not include school holiday weeks.

Families must provide the College with written notice of their decision to cancel their child's/children's enrolment.

Where notice of ten school weeks is not provided, full tuition fees may need to be paid to the College for the number of school weeks where notice was not provided. This includes withdrawal prior to the start of the school year.

For more information, please contact enrol@mountcarmel.tas.edu.au or the College Office on 6216 7900.
