Music Concert A Success.

Our instrumental music students were on show last Monday night performing at their first concert for the year. It was great to see a full audience in attendance. I’m sure everyone that came along went away with a smile and were amazed at the talent our students displayed on stage in such short time. Feedback given from parents and staff was they could notice the progress made from last year from all players. The evening showcased our junior and intermediate concert bands, our string ensemble, rock group, acoustic guitar group and our VCE music group. Many students also performed individual solos throughout the evening.

I would like to thank our students for being part of our instrumental music program at Maffra SC. Their enthusiasm and commitment this year has been outstanding. They are attending all lessons and rehearsals which is great to see. Now that our ensembles are building their repertoire and students are gaining more experience, we look forward to performances in the community in the coming months to showcase our wonderful music program.

I would like to thank our instrumental music teachers Kimberley Gardiner, Ryan Lestrange and Donna Stemberger for preparing our students to perform at the concert. The College’s Facebook page will display photos taken at the concert. Many thanks to staff member Trevor Raine for taking photos on the night.

East Gippsland Music Festival

Music students in our concert bands, string ensemble and choir will be participating in the East Gippsland Music Festival held at Bairnsdale Secondary College in the last week of term 2. Combined rehearsals take place on different days with students from Bairnsdale SC, Orbost SC, Lakes Entrance SC, Swifts Creek P-12 College and all of their feeder primary schools. It is a productive week of music making. Our students will depart the College at 9am and will return in time for the bus run home. Music will be given out this week. Teachers will start working on their parts during lessons in preparation for the workshops. A Gala Concert commencing at 7pm will be held on Thursday 23rd June in Boucher Hall at Bairnsdale SC. All music rehearsed during the workshops will be performed at the Gala Concert. Students involved will receive a letter with all information next week.

Music Instrument Trials

It isn’t too late to learn a musical instrument. Over the next few weeks we will be holding instrument demonstrations/trials during lunchtime on Mondays and Tuesdays. I will make an announcement to remind you all to come over to A1. Instruments on offer are: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, voice, keyboard, drums, xylophone and the glockenspiel. Come along and have a play. Music is fun!

On behalf of instrumental music staff Kimberley Gardiner, Ryan Lestrange and Donna Stemberger, enjoy the rest of the term and don’t forget to take your instrument home after your lesson as practice makes perfect.
