May 17th- National Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination

IDAHOBIT DAY is a worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversities. IDAHOBIT Day was created in 2004 to draw attention to the harmful consequences of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia and to promote a world of tolerance, respect, awareness and freedom.

Maffra Secondary College took a pledge to stand with their LGBTQIA+ students and community. The day was led by our Diversity Captains Jye Missen and Meagan Webster who raised the rainbow flag to raise awareness of discrimination against LGBTIQA+ communities and provided an opportunity to take action and engage conversation.

Students were encouraged to wear something rainbow and rainbow ribbons were available on the day for students to wear to show support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Maffra Secondary College is a place where all students should feel safe and respected. In line with our school values, we encourage all students to be brave and to be an ally for LGBTQIA+ students by standing up and speaking out against hate, discrimination, and violence whenever and wherever it occurs.
