Year Three/Four News

Art Gallery Excursion

Last week the Year 3/4 students visited the Art Gallery of Ballarat to participate in art sessions as part of the Gallery's NAIDOC Week celebrations. The sessions were run by Pauline, a former teacher and Deanne, a local indigenous artist. Students were taken on a tour of indigenous artwork in the Gallery and invited to share what they saw. They then drew outlines of birds and used ochre to create patterns. The birds were cut out and put on a cultural tree of knowledge. It was very interesting to learn about the artworks and the artists, and students did a great job creating their own artworks. In the coming weeks the birds will be delivered to the school and will be put on display.
