Acting Principal's Report

I acknowledge the First Peoples of our nation and the traditional custodians of the land on which our beautiful school stands, The Wathaurong people. I pay my respects to the Wathaurong people and acknowledge their contribution and care of the land and waters on which our school community works and lives. I pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge and thank all First Nations people within the Miners Rest School Community.

Face masks

Families will have received a letter via Sentral yesterday regarding the wearing of face masks for students and staff. It is strongly encouraged that both staff and students (8 years and over) wear face masks where possible in classrooms and closed settings. It is important to note that this is not a mandate, but a preferred option to keep our students and staff safe and well wherever possible. Thank you for your support and understanding around this government recommendation.

Learning Walks

Learning and engagement are in full swing as we move towards the end of Week 2 already! As I spend time in classrooms, it is delightful to see Classroom Agreements displayed prominently, students learning goals for Reading, Writing and Number being established through conferences and our Reading and Writing Workshops in action throughout the year levels. The result of the establishment of positive, structured and organised learning environments, is authentic and purposeful learning experiences for all of our children. You will receive a sample of your child's learning shortly via Showbie or SeeSaw.

Student Enrolments for 2023

It is that time of year again when we are looking at student enrolments for 2023, particularly for Foundation. We have had a number of tours for families and we are beginning to develop a supportive and tailored transition program to support our children transitioning from Kindergarten to Foundation in 2023. Confirmation letters and an outline of the Miners Rest K-F Transition Program will be provided to families this term.

Parent Information Session

We are providing our families with an opportunity to attend a very important information session about Respectful Relationships next Wednesday evening July 27 at 7:00 pm. I strongly encourage parents to attend and hear the importance and relevance of this program to all of our students. The evening is being presented by Department of Education personnel and will provide not only an opportunity to become more informed about the program, but also allow for any questions or further information to be provided. Come along and join us for some supper and an informative presentation.

Playgroup

We are delighted to have Playgroup up and running again this year on the school grounds for families with young children. The weekly session time is Tuesday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am and the Playgroup space is Room B6 in the Brady Building. All parents with young children are warmly invited to attend. So, bring a keep-cup along to use the tea and coffee facilities available and connect with other families and allow your children to meet and play with other children within our school environment.

Have a wonderful sunny end to another great week at school,

Kylie Nissen

Acting Principal
