Year 12
During Week 4 many Year 12 students attended the 2020 Universities Showcase event with five universities sending representatives to talk to our students. These were: University of Wollongong, University of New England, University of Newcastle, Charles Sturt University and Southern Cross University.
Year 11
In Week 2 a group of Year 11 girls chose to participate in the 2020 Southern Universities excursion. In 4 days we visited 6 universities which included the Discovery Day 2020 at the University of Wollongong and tours of Macquarie University, UNSW, the University of Sydney, Avondale University College and the University of Newcastle. We stayed on campus at three very different accommodation options. The students had their eyes opened to what courses and options are available, what university life is like and what they need to do in Year 11 and Year 12 to enhance their prospects of successfully applying to university and gaining scholarships.
Year 10
During Weeks 10 and 11 I will be spending several periods with each Year 10 class to discuss their options, subject selection, provide information and show them how to access information to help them to decide if they wish to leave school at the end of the Year 10 to commence employment or study at TAFE or to continue on to study in Year 11 and 12.
Work Experience
On 20 March McCarthy will be running a White Card course which is a NSW Government legal requirement for students who wish to do work experience or gain apprenticeships or employment where they need to visit construction sites including homes under construction. I have arranged for a registered trainer to facilitate the course at McCarthy at a reduced rate. At the time of writing this, so far 16 students have indicated they wish to do the course.

Term 2
Friday 8 May 2020 - UNE Open Day - interested Year 12 students.
Wednesday 20 May 2020 - North West Regional Careers Expo at TRECC.
Wednesday 10 June 2020 - University Information Evening for students and parents in Years 10, 11 and 12.
Thursday 11 June 2020 - Biennial Ag Careers Expo at Farrer.
Week 10 Northern Universities excursion to universities in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Lismore open to Year 11 and 12 students interested in attending university in Queensland.
