Peer Support

Years  7 and 10

A group of 37 Year 10 students enthusiastically participated in the Peer Leaders' Training last week. During the day students extended their skills in leadership, communication elements, empathy and connecting with others. This training day is the first step in implementing the Peer Support Program at McCarthy Catholic College

Once the program commences, two Year 10 students will lead a group of 10 Year 7 students through a 40 minute session. The eight week module involves a variety of activities on topics related to  “rethinking challenges - resilience.” Meeting in small groups allows meaningful connections to form, assisting students with the transition to secondary high school. Over 8 sessions, Year 7 students will be guided by their Year 10 leaders, acknowledging their strengths and achievements, identify people who support them and learn how to view challenges as opportunity for growth. The majority of these lessons will be held during the Year meeting time slot for Year 7 (Wednesday Week B, period 4).

Future Finders - Personal Management

Year 9

Next Tuesday students in Year 9 will begin their first sessions on personal management and interacting positively and effectively with others. As part of their career education students will be given the opportunity to:

Understand the importance of giving and receiving feedback

Identifying personal characteristics - skills, interests, values, beliefs and attitudes

Adopt behaviours and attitudes that help reach life, learning and work goals

The sessions are run by the Pastoral Care Team, and many are practical in nature with the opportunity for reflection at the end of each activity.

Coles Pass

All Students

If students have a late bus of an afternoon, with parent permission, students can walk down to Northgate shops and return to McCarthy in order to catch their bus. Parents/guardians need to provide a written note or email to the College office (mccadmin@arm.catholic.edu.au) giving permission. The student is then issued with a Coles Pass. This does not happen immediately and students will be called to the office to collect the pass once it is produced. Students must carry this pass with them so teachers on bus duty can monitor student movement.

Please note students are NOT permitted to leave McCarthy once they are dropped off or disembark the bus in the morning.
