Extra-Curricular Music

On Saturday 25 March, the Primary Year 5 and Year 6 Rock Bands journeyed to Deniliquin to participate in the annual ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition held at St Michael’s Primary School. The event was an exciting opportunity for the students to showcase their musical talents and compete with four other bands from St Michael’s Primary School.

Under the expert guidance of Shane McGrath, our talented students prepared two items each to perform at the competition. Our Year 5 Rock Band delivered an electrifying mash-up of ‘Thunderstruck’ and ‘I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll’, along with an outstanding performance of ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’. Then, our Year 6 Rock Band wowed the audiences with their impressive renditions of ‘When it Rains it Pours’ and ‘Ex’s and Oh’s’.

We are incredibly proud to share that the Year 5 Rock Band emerged as the winners of the ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition! Congratulations to all the students who participated and made our school proud.

Participating students included:

Year 5:

Vivaan Shenai, guitar

Oliver Knight, guitar/vocals

Willow Watson, vocals

Max Johns, bass/vocals

Darcy Knowles-Mulholland, keys

Hugh Thomson, keys

Sam McLeary, drums (filled in for Alec Campbell)

Edward Melville, guitar

Year 6:

Peaches Staritt, guitar/vocals

Ruby Whitelegg, bass/vocals

Jack Wheatley, bass

Matthew Maxwell, lead guitar

Jack Hawkins, guitar

Sam McLeary, drums

Charlie Flanigan, keys

We extend our sincere appreciation to Shane McGrath for providing the students with this fantastic opportunity and for his exceptional guidance and support throughout the competition. The event was a resounding success, and we look forward to participating in more such events in the future.
