Boroondara Division Swimming Championships

Congratulations to our 19 swimmers who competed at the Boroondara Division Swimming Championships on Tuesday 1st March. This event is always of a very high standard. A total of 6 districts compete at this divisional level, with many outstanding swimmers competing. Our swimmers gave their best effort with all the races, some being extremely close. The excitement and joy the team shared for each other was terrific to see. The parents who came along to support certainly helped bring out the very best in all swimmers.

One of our swimmers, Rudy G starred on the day finishing second in the 50m Butterfly, which qualifies him for the Regional Championships.

‘It was the day of the Divisional Swimming Carnival. The team was very excited to be racing and to represent the school. I knew there were going to be lots of great swimmers there and the competition would be tougher than the District Sports. The team had already had the medley relays, freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke events and everyone had raced really well. The butterfly event was the second last event of the day before the freestyle relays. It was raining which made the blocks slippery. As the marshal called us to the start, l was shaking with nerves. I got on the blocks and heard the announcer say, “Take your marks..” Beep! My back foot fumbled on the blocks, but my dive was luckily ok. l hit the wall and I came second place. I was off to Regionals and I raced back to my friends who all cheered and congratulated me. It was great to share the excitement with them all’ - Rudy G

The school community is very proud of the HWPS Swim Team efforts and achievements and we wish Rudy G all the best for next Friday at the Regional Championships on 25th of March.
