Barefoot Bowls

Throughout February and March, the Community and Fundraising Team ran Barefoot Bowling events at the Hawthorn Bowling Club for the Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 families.

The events were put together by an enthusiastic team of volunteers who made all three events work seamlessly.  The kids had an opportunity to learn to bowl with soft bowls under the guidance of the professionals at the club, and the adults had a chance to finally meet and catch up with each other.  A BBQ was ready to feed the hungry and icy poles available to cool down the kids after they ran around playing bowls on the green or football on the block next door.

We would really like to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers, in particular our event leads - Emily Banks, Hannah McBride-Burgess and Khoon Lai.

The events also could not have gone ahead without the kind sponsors - Bakers Delight Victoria Gardens and Glenferrie Gourmet Meats and of course the wonderful team at Hawthorn Bowling Club.

These events were a lovely opportunity for community building and we now have a great system worked out with the bowling club to make the events work for both us and them (i.e. the kids are entertained while the greens are protected and the adults can socialise!).  We would love to see other year levels take up the opportunity to run similar events.

Touch base with me, Cath White, for details if you are keen to coordinate.
