Our Graduating Senior Students, 2021

This week, we celebrate our graduates Sam, Elijah and Josh F.

Samuel Baker

Sam started at Yarrabah in 2007 in the school’s early education program, and since that time has grown into an adventurous young man with a genuine love of the outdoors. He was named the school’s Community Inclusion Leader for 2021, a position that speaks to his love of accessing and engaging in the local community in a range of practical and recreational pursuits.

Sam’s love of water is legendary, as is his passion for public transport. He is very responsible and completes many work tasks around the school and in the local community. Sam has volunteered with our Meals on Wheels program in partnership with the City of Kingston over the last 2 years, delivering meals weekly to local people in need.

Next year, Sam is embarking on a combination of individual and group-based support, where he will be able to participate in leisure and volunteer work activities that are motivating to him.

Congratulations Sam.

Elijah Young

Elijah started his journey at Yarrabah school in 2009 at the age of six. Over the years he has developed into a fine young man who has had an impact on many of the staff and students in the school. This is evident when Elijah moves throughout the school community and is warmly greeted by the many people who have worked with him since prep. Most people have a story to tell about his cheeky nature, good sense of humour, having a healthy appetite, and unique ability to gain the attention of the opposite sex.

All would agree that the progress that Elijah has made over the years has been incredible.

Since joining the Upper Secondary Section, Elijah has adapted well to the movement of classes and extended periods in the community. He loves going swimming, walking in the community, completing a puzzle, and using the swing in the playground. What has been most noticeable over the last 2 years is Elijah’s desire to be more independent. This was one of the reasons that staff and his fellow students elected him to the role of Vice-Captain in 2021.

In 2022, Elijah will be attending Bayley House in Brighton. He will join fellow 2021 graduates, as well as many past Yarrabah students. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Congratulations Elijah

Joshua Fergurson

Josh commenced his Yarrabah journey in 2016, and in that time has made a resounding impression. This year he was appointed to the leadership position of School Captain. This is a testament to his responsible nature and the care and compassion he regularly displays towards his peers.

Josh has a great work ethic and has a great aptitude for tasks that require creativity and ingenuity. He loves sport and art, as well as accessing the community independently.

Next year, Josh is embarking on a new adventure at Holmesglen Tafe, enrolled in a certificate course in Work Education. He will learn a range of work-readiness, personal and interpersonal skills that will give him a great platform going into adult life.

Congratulations Josh.
