 Tip Tap

At Yarrabah School we are using a sensory program called Tip Tap. The purpose of Tip Tap is to use music and touch together. It is a very calming and organising program, which encourages meaningful interactions between staff and students. It is used with students of all abilities. Music is used to assist in improving concentration, and helps the program to become a repetitive routine. Tip Tap is often used at transition times, for example, after coming in from the playground, prior to table top work tasks.

The sensory objects used include a feather duster, washer, pom pom, cardboard, piece of material, scourer and spikey ball. Different movements are completed with the objects, e.g. tapping, patting, waving, and rolling, which provides different tactile sensations for the student. Each object has a different music track which reflects the properties of the item. Each object is used in time to the beat of the music.

Tip Tap is used across Yarrabah School with all students.
