Easter Celebrations

On Thursday 1st April at 9:15am we are having our annual Easter Bonnet Parade. Children are encouraged to create an Easter bonnet to wear on the day.

Parents are invited to attend, if the weather is good, as the event will be held on the basketball court. If the weather is poor, we will not be able to have parents attend, and will notify you on the morning if this is the case. We will also be drawing the winners of our Easter Raffle during the parade.

Our raffle tickets will be sold at school from Monday 22nd March for $1 per ticket.

We are looking for donations for our Easter Raffle. Donations could include Easter eggs, books, toys or other Easter themed items, which will then be put into bundles that can be raffled. If you can donate Easter items for our raffle, please bring them into the office by Tuesday 30th March

House Sports Foundation-Year 2

Our junior House Sports Carnival for Foundation to Year 2 students is being held on the 26th March from 9am – 10.40am. Students will participate in a variety of sporting activities within the school grounds, competing for house points. Students are to wear appropriate footwear for running, a hat and house uniform or school uniform. Parents are welcome to attend this outdoor event, but must remember to sign into the school using the QR code available at the school entrance.

Curriculum Update – Spelling

Our teachers have been implementing two new spelling programs from Foundation to Year 6. Staff on our English Team have completed action research over the last 12 months into which programs would be best suited to our school and we are currently in a trial year with our new programs. We have implemented Little Learners Love Literacy in Foundation and Year 1 and SMART Spelling from Year 2 - 6. Both of these are reputable programs with a strong focus on building phonemic awareness and students understanding of letter/sound patterns to improve both Spelling and Reading. The English Team have provided targeting Professional Learning to all staff ensuring they have a good understanding of the programs and to seek regular feedback on our next steps. Staff have also been provided with a wide range of resources to support the teaching of these programs and some lesson modelling from our English Leader. The feedback from staff and students has been very positive.

Staffing News

Some exciting news coming from our Year 2 team..... congratulation to Ms Mel Ray who has announced she is pregnant and expecting her third child later this year. Arrangements will be made for her classroom teaching role, and this will be communicated to parents of 2A as soon as possible.

Parent Helpers Program

We are excited to welcome our parent/guardian helpers back into our classrooms.

If you are interested in helping in your child’s classroom with individual assistance or small group work in Reading, Writing and/or Maths, excursions and/or PMP, please sign up for our Parent Helper’s Program. It is a requirement that the program is completed prior to parents/guardians working in classrooms. It will be held on Thursday 25th of March at 9.00am and will run for approximately 45 minutes. The purpose of the program is to explore how children learn, to recognise the importance of parents in their children’s learning and to look at ways in which you can help in the classroom. 2021 Curriculum Days

Our School Council has approved the following Curriculum Days for 2021. On these days no students are to attend, as teachers will be involved in professional learning and development days.

Last Week of Term

Our last week of Term 1 begins with our Whole School Assembly on Monday 29th March at 3:00pm. If we the weather is fine, we will be able to have parents attend this event.

School Photos are being taken on Tuesday 30th March, please ensure your child/ren are in full school uniform.

Finally, the last day of school for Term 1 is Thursday 1st April, which includes the morning's Easter Parade, all students are dismissed earlier for the end of term at 2:30pm on the Thursday.

School Council

Congratulations to our newly elected School Council Presdient, Jeewat Kaur Singh. Our new Vice President is Jenni Maypiece and our Treasurer is Kylie Williams. Sharon Diehl is newly appointed as Minutes/Correspondence Secretary.

Sarah Bannister and Stephanie Harrip are joining the School Council as casual vacancies until the end of this year. We know that all of our School Council will do a wonderful role in supports and representing our school community.

Melbourne Victory Clinics

We have been fortunate enough to gain funding for Melbourne Victory to provide soccer clinics to our Year 3-6 students. The clinics offer students the opportunity to extend their skills in ball control for kicking and an improved ability to work in a team whilst playing an invasion game. Clinics have started this week and will run during Physical Education classes until the end of the term.

Communication Channels at Clyde PS

We value positive relationships with parents. Our staff are approachable and want to work in partnership with you to ensure your child reaches their potential both academically and emotionally. Please chat with your child’s teacher should any issue arise. They are your first port of call. Most staff are outside after school each day to have a quick chat to. Please make an appointment, however for issues that will require more time. Should you require further assistance after this initial communication for particular issues, I have listed the PLT Leaders across the school who will be able to assist you.

Ms Hayley Taylor and Mr Lee Russell, our Wellbeing team are also available, as are Ms Kate Couacaud, Ms Emma Grant and Ms Sue Lumley. Finally, Ms Mackenlay is available as our Acting Principal to help with more serious and complex issues. Our goal is to develop your child’s ability to resolve issues, build resilience and learn lifelong skills, as well as getting along with others.

The ACE Foundation

Next week all of our Foundation students will come home with a free reading book, donated by the ACE Foundation. Please spend some time with your child reading this book as reading to your child regularly assists to develop their love of reading.

The ACE Foundation is a NOT FOR PROFIT Foundation located within the City of Casey. The ACE vision is to assist students of any age in the City of Casey who are experiencing significant challenges in their educational pursuits. These challenges may be either cultural, language, socioeconomic, physical or family fracture related etc.

The ACE Foundation supports schools within the City of Casey, including Clyde Primary School by:

Providing monetary encouragement awards (6 x $100) at the end of the year
Providing free testing and provision of free glasses with vision impairment
Providing free supervised study facililities available at Thompson Road Clinic with tutoring
Providing a reading book to every Foundation student when they begin school
