Year 7 Sport Report - March 18th 2021

Softball:

The one Year 7 Softball team played at Burnley Oval on Sports day. MGC’s A team won 2/4 games and drew the last for what was a competitive day against 3 other schools. University High School won the competition on the day, but our students tried very hard in what was their very first Interschool sport day at school. Our players worked hard as a team and were excellent when batting. A big thank you to Parker Melpeli, Lara Buriss and Scarlett Brydon for coaching our team. A thank you also goes to our very own Jono Rundell for organising the competition and our student teacher Emily for assisting him.

 Year 7 Volleyball:

The A & B teams headed to Brunswick Secondary College for another successful interschool sport day. MGC’s A team won the competition outright defeating Princes Hill in the final and have qualified for regional level on the 29th October (Week 4 – Term 4). The A and B volleyball team did an amazing job, and everyone gave it their all and had lots of fun. Thank you to our coaches Georgia Culshaw, Indiana Morris and Tilly Hooper for organising our teams. A big Thank you to Mr. Liu and Mrs. B for inspiring our students with their enthusiasm also.

Social Volleyball:

Another big turn out at MGC for the social volleyball competition – 29 teams competed in the MGC gym. This was the first time the Year 7’s were able to play Interschool sport at MGC so it was a very special experience. MGC registered 11 teams and it was great to see just how well organised all our students were in reading the fixture and rallying their teams to each game. All teams experienced big improvements as the day went on, but the most important thing was the fact that everyone had fun. Thanks to all Year 9 & 10 coaches, and our student teacher William for helping run our competition with umpiring and scoring.

Tennis:

Our tennis teams took a trip to Royal Park Tennis Centre and had a wonderful day out. Our A team won their way through to Regional Finals – defeating Princes Hill in great fashion. Well done to Talia Zangalis, Tahlia Osborne, Alysa Mohammed Fadhli and Myra Kumar who will take go to the regional finals on the 30th of April (week 2 of Term 2 – Friday). Thanks to Ms. Ansons and Ms. Wilson-Rhychner, Ada Breach, Katie Brown and Lucinda Hanrahan for helping our tennis players out too!

Cricket:

Cricket was a defiantly a blast! MGC’s Yr. 7 cricket teams went to princes’ park on Thursday last week. There were heaps of different schools there such as Richmond high, Uni High, Brunswick secondary college and more. We had 2 competing teams for a chance to go to the next round of competitions, and we had 2 social teams who played for fun against other schools. People from the Cricket Australia came to help out and umpire our games. Thanks to the year 9’s : Josie Lennon, Phoebe Bullock, Natalie Barone, Lily Murrihy and Jade Simoni who gave up there lunch times for the training sessions , were coaches/ leaders and kept us happy and motivated through the day. Thanks to Miss Scowen, Miss Miller and Ms T for accompanying us there and watching us play. Thank you also to the Sport teachers for preparing us and Mr Monagham for organizing us to go and play. Congrats to The A team who has made it through to the next round in term 4 and we can’t wait to hear how they go then!

The cricket day was filled with laughs, funny memories and good games. I think that everyone enjoyed playing and had a good go. This day brought me and my team together in hopes to win but overall we just has some fun. I can’t wait to experience this in the next couple of terms with new teammates and new sports. And I would like to thank Jade Simoni, Our team coach who motivated us to keep going and to continue our good work. Thank you Ms Tellefson for helping making cricket day so special and Ms Miller for looking after the social teams. I would highly suggest doing a sport in Term 2, 3 or 4 because was just too much fun to miss out on.
