Music Camp

On Friday 19th March, 40 students set off on Music Camp in the picturesque suburb of…Parkville! Urban Camp is situated in Royal Park, and although we were not far from the city, we were surrounded by beautiful bushland and blessed with perfect weather. Students across the Instrumental Music Program attended the camp and we focused on building relationships with peers while practicing current and new repertoire. The camp concluded on Sunday midday with a concert for the parents, and for many of the students it would have been their first live performance pre-Covid! The MGC Choir sang ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’ and ‘A Million Dreams’, and the Acapella Choir sang ‘Still A Friend of Mine’. The Band performed two songs from the Annie musical, and a stunning rendition of Careless Whisper by George Michael, featuring Irene Tetaz on Solo Viola. It was a fantastic showcase of their work ethic and musicianship, and we are so proud of them! Thank you to the following Instrumental Music staff who volunteered their time over the weekend: Anne Corry, Tony Hicks, Susan De Jong, Ellyce Calder and Les Gyori.

Music camp started off with a small rehearsal to get to know everyone. The first night was a movie night where we all hung out, watched a movie, ate snacks, and had fun. The next morning, we woke up to a full day of rehearsals; the band was playing some nice tunes while Choir and Acapella were singing their hearts out, all learning a bunch of new songs. By the end of the day, we were all tired but still excited for red faces. There were many great singers and dancers with the Years 7s getting everyone on stage to dance to Shake it Off. The next morning, we were all very nervous for the performance because it had been almost a year since anyone had performed. The performance went well. With only two days to learn the songs, it sounded like we had been practicing it for weeks. The Band was after us and they sounded amazing, performing songs from the musical we wish had happened. Afterwards we all went home with awesome memories and a couple new friends.
