Anzac Day 2022

Anzac Day Service

Mornington Secondary College is extremely proud of the annual Anzac Day Service we hold in the school grounds and our Walk of Remembrance.

Each year we invite several dignitaries to attend along with local heroes of our community and are delighted that every year we are overwhelmed with their positive response.

Our students are proud to be a part of the service with the whole school in attendance. Our Year 12 captains guide the service, Year 7 students serve as flag bearers and the drum corps lead the way. Baden Southurst bravely stepped up at the last minute to perform The Last Post on his trumpet, and he was magnificent.

Bee Walker performed the New Zealand national anthem and Melody Howe sang the Australian national anthem. All of our students on the day were outstanding and a credit to our school.

Thank you to the Police pipe band who attend every year and are so very important to our day.

At the end of a beautiful, proud, respectful service our Principal, Linda Stanton, gave a poignant speech about the bravery of our soldiers with specific reference to those who served from our local community. One in particular of our local community, our extremely talented, Jon Gibson, who is a member of our wellbeing team, recited an original poem he penned especially for the day. The dignitaries made their way to our Walk of Remembrance and paid their respects after our School Captains concluded our service.

A morning tea was provided afterwards, giving our Captain's council members the opportunity to serve and mingle with the dignitaries and learn some valuable Australian wartime history.

The students were excited to meet and socialise with our guests.

Thank you to everyone who attended and laid their wreaths in remembrance to our brave men and women who risked and lost their lives to defend our freedom and way of life.

We also give thanks and are very proud of our armed forces of today who continue to risk their lives to serve our country, keeping us safe.

And thank you to all of Mornington Secondary College's amazing staff and students who work tirelessly to make sure the day is always an outstanding success.
