Japanese Excursion

Heronswood Excursion

On Monday 4th April, Year 9 Japanese students attended an excursion to Heronswood Gardens in Dromana.

The students were celebrating the Japanese festival Hanami – The Cherry Blossom Festival -  which happens in April/May in Japan.

During Hanami Japanese people appreciate the beauty of nature while celebrating the change of seasons, and the arrival of Spring.

Many people make time to visit the beautiful Sakura (Cherry Blossom) flowers, which bloom for only a short time.

On their excursion MSC students appreciated the beauty in nature and took notes in Japanese and English about the particular location of things that they saw in the gardens – which relates to the topic they are currently studying in class.

Students also had the experience of trying a traditional Japanese sweet, called Wagashi, which is eaten during Hanami in Japan.

The Japanese confectionery was provided by Minniesweets, Melbourne.

Some students also wrote haiku poetry about their experiences using Japanese language.
