Invitation to Walk with Sons

The Marist College Ashgrove Walkathon is the largest whole school fundraiser on the College calendar.

On Sunday 6 June all students from Years 5 to 12 will come together with the College community to complete a 10-kilometre walk through the range of the Enoggera Hill located within the Enoggera Barracks.

The Walkathon not only raises funds that are to be put towards projects benefiting the whole College Family, such as enhancing the Champagnat Centre facilities, but it also gives the College Family the opportunity to enjoy a fun morning walking with their sons.

If you or members of your immediate family would like to join the walk please register on the SignUp link below.

Parent Volunteer Registration

The success of the Walkathon is very dependent on parent volunteers and spreading the load. We have been so grateful for the contribution by the parent volunteers in the past and we hope that we can continue at this year’s Walkathon.

We are now seeking parent volunteers for the day. Parent volunteers are vital to the running and success of this event so please consider giving some time to support the Parents and Friends Association on Sunday 6 June. Please register for a volunteer position via the link below:

Your support on the day is greatly appreciated.

Walkathon: From the Archives

This week’s collection of “Walkathon: From the Archives” photographs capture the same moment of the event but from three different decades. The first image shows students setting off for the first ever Walkathon in 1968. The students are standing to the side of the Carrick wing with the Tower in the background. This photo is a bit blurry but you can still see the excitement and anticipation in the students’ faces.

The second and third images show students racing across the starting line back in 1983 and then in 1991. These two photos are taken from almost exactly the same position eight years apart and show an interesting comparison of how the event has progressed over time. In both of these photos, you can see parents and family watching from the balcony, a reminder that this event was and still is for the whole family.

If you have any information about the photos that are shown, or have your own Walkathon memories or photos from the past that you would like to share, please contact Madeleine Tong at tongm@marash.qld.edu.au.
