From the Primary School

As the term speeds by I thought I might share with you some of the Professional Development staff are involved with currently. Our new staff are being inducted into our Literacy approach especially Reading (Reading Progressions and Guided Reading) by our Literacy Co-ordinator, Mrs Michelle McGinty and Curriculum Co-ordinator (also Assistant Head of Primary), Mrs Jo West. The whole Primary staff attended a session on Critical Literacy which will support them to assist the boys in developing these skills. Critical Literacy develops skills for higher order thinking and ethical understanding to promote deep and complex reading comprehension. Sounds like high brow stuff and while it is, every child benefits from this way of thinking and approaching reading.

I a few weeks’ time we will have a workshop on “Growing with Gratitude” which looks at the mental wellbeing of our children and we all want our young ones to be resilient and happy. More information on that after our session.
