Library News

Well it has been a busy couple of weeks here in our Libraries.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge has begun, and all classes up to Year 8 will have received their forms by the end of this week. We encourage students in Year 9 and above to participate, and forms can be collected from the Senior Library. The importance of reading cannot be underestimated, and I am reminded of a quote from Mark Twain that resonated with me as a child:

“The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read.”

So, I encourage parents to support their sons in the Challenge.

In the Primary library, the ELC students began their borrowing sessions last week, and it has been lovely to see the excitement and enthusiasm that they have for their library visits. They certainly liven up the library!

The Year 5s and 6s have commenced their Guided Inquiry units, and I will be working with classes on the research process, helping them with the locating, selecting, analysing and referencing their information.

Last week was also Library Lovers’ Day, and to mark this day we asked students to write a short response explaining why they loved libraries. We had some great responses, such as… “because they have lots of unique books and it’s a wonderful, creative, imaginative and unique part of our school community.”

I couldn’t have put it better myself!
