Primary Co-Curricular

Primary Co-curricular

Games have now begun for all Primary teams with tennis players and cricketers taking to their various arenas. Teams had mixed successes this week but our players turned out in good numbers and with good attitudes.

Cricket

The Primary B1 Cricket team went down to a strong Sacred Heart line-up. One Sacred Heart player took five wickets including a hattrick which certainly didn’t help our batting. Mr Allwood saw some good signs and has a few things to work on at training.

The Year 4/5 cricketers ventured to Pulteney. After winning the toss and batting the Blacks boys posted 4/99 off 25 overs to be in a good position at the break The boys then bowled very well and restricted Pulteney to just 54 from their overs. Tarquin bowled really well and took two wickets. Panteli took two nice catches and Ben peeled off a quick-fire 12 retired.

The Kanga cricket boys played their first game. For many it was their first game of modified cricket. Mr Niedzwiecki was very pleased with the boys and the way in which they conducted themselves throughout the matches. Well done to all boys involved!

Tennis

The A1/A2 team played at home against St Ignatius in the first round of the season. St Ignatius proved very accomplished and Blackfriars could only win one set out of 18. The boys all tried their best but on this occasion the depth of St Ignatius proved too strong. Attendance at training is important this week to work on a few basic skills and tactics.

Mr Vo’s B2 team had a good win against St Michaels 2, 6 sets to 3. The boys did a great job, some of them in their first matches for quite a while. The team showed great team spirit by hanging around right until the end and supporting their friends with scoring or ‘ball boy’ duties.

Mrs LaForgia’s Year 5 team had a terrific win against St Andrews in their first game of the year. The boys won all of their singles matches and dropped just the one doubles match. Very impressive stuff considering so many are new to tennis.

Summer Fixtures

Unfortunately the fixtures for most grades have been changing frequently for reasons beyond our control. It is important that families continue to use SEQTA regularly as a guide as all draws listed there are current.

Winter Co-Curricular Nominations

Many thanks to those families that have returned their winter nominations for 2019. Please keep them coming through with the deadline being this Friday 22/2. We are still looking for extra numbers in many sports or pursuits so that we can nominate for various competitions.

Coaches and Referees

In the recent letter regarding Winter Co-Curricular Nominations, I put out a call for any parents or community members that might be willing to coach or referee various sports during the Winter season. We require potential parents / community members to coach:

  • Year 4/5 basketball – Tuesday nights
  • Year 6/7 Basketball – Wednesday nights
  • Auskick Football Coaches – Friday nights (Term 2)
  • Soccer Referees 9 (Friday nights and Saturday mornings)
  • AFL Umpires (Saturday mornings)

These positions are paid positions so if you are interested then please let me know via email or mobile.

Have a great week.
