Senior Sport - Week 7, 2020

After such a fantastic week of College sports results, the weather appears to have put a wet blanket over MCS games in Week 7. All games were washed out due to local councils closing grounds.

As reported last week, our College 1st XI was able to get a game of cricket in on Monday. Once again, congratulations to the 1st XI for defeating MacKillop College from Port Macquarie in the final of the Downie Shield.

Two Downie Shield wins and a finals loss in three successive years for the College has been indicative of the cricket pedigree we have in our students.

NSW CCC Softball

Four students represented the College at the NSW CCC Softball selections that were held on the 24th February. Chase Missen, Oliver Stewart, Evan Wulf and Joel Byrne were competitive throughout the selection, but congratulations must be given to Joel Byrne and Evan Wulff who were selected into the 2020 NSW CCC Softball team.

House Cup

As you can see below, Molloy hold a small lead over the other Houses, but with Winter MCS team selections taking place, a plethora of points will be awarded shortly to successful students. Our Public Speaking competitions begin shortly, so the boys will have plenty of opportunities to represent the College and contribute to the House Cup.

ISA Basketball - Grandfinal Game

After winning our Semi Final games last week our UN/17’s and 1st Grade played in the ISA Grand Final games at Penrith Stadium.

UN/17’s v REDLANDS. RESULT: LOSS 32 to 36

This Grand Final was very close, with the lead changing throughout the game. Unfortunately, only one team can win according to the scoreboard and for St Greg’s, it was tough to go down by a narrow margin of 4 points.

Well done to the UN/17’s on making the Grand Final; a wonderful achievement. Throughout the season the UN/17’s have played hard, displayed great teamwork and sportsmanship.

Congratulations to the UN/17’s 2019/2020 ISA Runners Up.

1st Grade v REDLANDS. RESULT: WIN 93-80

Redlands were the match favourite going into this game considering they had beaten St Greg’s twice before in Round fixtures. The last time we matched up with Redlands on 1st February we took a massive 21 point loss, so the St Greg’s boys were not going to take Redlands lightly.

In a cracking first quarter of play, St Greg’s let Redlands know they were in for a challenge as we took the lead 20 to 18. The second quarter was very tough with Redlands taking back control and going into halftime with an 11 point advantage over St Greg’s.

The second half saw a massive turnaround for St Greg’s as we managed to get on a nice roll with some great defence, spectacular shooting and dominant inside play. St Greg’s managed to score a massive 63 points in the second half and held Redlands to only 39 which resulted in St Greg’s winning the game comfortably 93 to 80. Highlights of the game included an incredible 8 three-pointers by Blake McKenna with a game total of 30 points and Dylan Ruiter was an unstoppable force with 33 points. It was a great team effort by St Greg’s to win this game with excellent sportsmanship on display. Congratulations to the 1st Grade 2019/2020 Champions.
